Last of his generation. Emigrated to Canada in 1954. "A tough old bird", as Glenn describes him. He has been able to supply much oral history of his mother's side of the family. Second wife was Brunhilde Ida Wagner, DOB May 1942, Hanover, Germany. I had the pleasure of meeting Stan in May 1998 when I was visiting Canada, two years before his death. It is hard to describe what an amazing character he was. At times, he was headstrong, outrageous and provocative, but always extremely quick-witted and sharp. An excellent raconteur, his stories were peppered with colourful expletives, intelligent quips and all in a thick Glaswegian accent. He was an afficianado of garage sales with a good eye from a bargain. He had some excellent antiques, including a collection of pocket watches, one of which he kindly gave me as a gift. Stan died peaceful after a long battle with lung cancer, comforted by Stephanie and his best friend, Sims the cat. His last words were (appropriately): "I'll say a prayer for you..... fuck this shit !" |
